Web Design & Wedding Stationery

Context

Brief

Priyanka and Vivek approached me with a project to design a custom wedding invite as a website. They were clear that they did not want it to be traditional or full of their photos, but rather reflect the elements of their love and the life they have built together and will continue to.

CONCEPTUALIZATION

Over a three hour zoom call the couple narrated their love story, abundant with details of the meals they ate on their first dates, their shared love for quiz shows, puzzles, and sudoku. With all that material I needed to add structure.

Their love for art was evident from all the travel they had done and the gifts they had chosen for eachother over the years. It is no surprise that we selected modern art as a central theme but went through several rounds to identify a look and feel that was both beautiful, inviting and most importantly, 'them'.

Early options based on the selected colour palette and theme of modern art.
Incorporating a Monet aesthetic with personalised elements of Alstroemeria (the flower that the couple keeps at their bedside) and the wedding location.
While we didn't use the web design in this style, the elements were repurposed for the print and digital invitation card as well as the video invitation.

DESIGN PROCESS

After a few tries of adding a more pop and classical theme, eventually we decided on a middle path. Each page would stay true to an artist they loved and incorporate elements from their pieces - some personalised, others for the aesthetic. I started by studying each artists works, building an understanding of their style.

I then spent majority of my time adapting illustrations and personalising them, weaving in little details from the couple's story.

Henri Matisse
La Musique (1939)
I swapped the music book for a Sudoku book, an activity the couple enjoy doing together.
I adapted a photo of the couple at their engagement and converted Matisse's famous artwork into a custom portrait.
